Why men should always pay?

I took a young Persian lady for a lunch. I suggested to go for a Persian meal. She told me she would prefer to have a vegetarian one. I did not argue as I wanted to make a good impression. She took me to an expensive restuarant on top floor of a tall building.
We ordered what she wanted to have. After the end, when I saw the bill, I was very surprised. I had to pay around $35 for a bowl of letuce salad for two, a dish of steamed vegetables, a bowl of soup for her, one bottle of small mineral water.
I had to pay although I was not able to eat that rubbish vegetable mixed with fish oil!
We said good bye to each other after the meal.
When I arrived at home, I made three peanut butter & jam sandwichs as I was very hungry.
I felt very bad but did not have much choice.
Have you ever been in this situation?
Why men always has to pay and ladies try to be a smart ****!!
